Dr. Leann Mainis's Story

Dr. Leann Mainis is the Assistant Medical Director at Sutter Delta Medical Center in Antioch, Calif. She studied medicine at Chicago Medical School at Rosalind Franklin University, and she completed her residency in emergency medicine at UCSF Fresno Campus. Dr. Mainis also works at John Muir Health in Walnut Creek and Concord.

Dr. Mainis imagined herself as a doctor from a young age. She remembers listening to her grandpa’s stories about his work as a doctor in the emergency room, and she was determined to follow in his footsteps. “I can’t remember a time when I didn’t want to be a doctor,” says Leann.

She loves her work in emergency medicine as it allows her to combine her desire to help people and solve challenging health care puzzles. She also likes to see the direct effect of her care and treating every patient that comes through the doors.

When she’s not serving her patients, Dr. Mainis loves to dote on her dogs. Opal is a french bulldog and Max is a mini Australian shepherd. She also loves skiing in Lake Tahoe with her family and researching the next best meal to cook. If she’s not cooking, she likes to eat tacos—“all day, every day,” says Leann with a laugh.

She highly recommends her all-time favorite movie, The Princess Bride. “It’s just one of those movies that no matter what age you are, there’s something for you,” she says.
